The Tucci Di Lusso line was founded by Houston-based shoe designer Tochukwu Mbiamnozie, the brain behind the successful TucciPolo fashion line. His latest independent business, Tucci Di Lusso features handmade luxury shoes for men. The Italian leather shoes are his own design, and the line features more than 30 new models. Mbiamnozie brings a unique design aesthetic and a focus on individuality and elegance. Before launching his first company in the U.S., Tochukwu earned an MBA from the University of Bridgeport in International Business.
His own first pair of leather dress shoes came from an online purchase in 2014 as he was preparing to attend graduate school in Connecticut. That experience shaped his own business, because Tochukwu was disappointed with the quality of leather, the fit, and the durability of the three pair of dress shoes he purchased online. Combined with a love of fashion and design skills learned from his architecture career, Tochukwu began to consider his next step after earning his MBA. Researching footwear brands, manufactures, and artisan craftsman during his graduate program – he found that the high-quality shoes from brands he coveted but couldn’t afford, from Berluti to Ferragamo and Gucci – could be designed and made from scratch for a more affordable price.
Tochukwu’s first fashion brand, TucciPolo, launched in 2015. It was the research he did while earning his MBA, combined with support from his peers and professors, that helped him start his first successful online business. He chose Italian leather shoes because of their durability and quality – a huge difference than the shoes he had purchased for himself just one year before. Italian leather shoes are made from the highest quality materials because Italy has a history of the best tanneries in the world. The leather produced ages gracefully as you wear it. In shoes, the leather produces the most durable, luxurious shoes available worldwide.
Of course, Tochukwu models his own designs, with 20 pairs in different colors and styles that he rotates daily. With a small amount of polish, his first pair of TucciPolo shoes still looks brand new. A good conversation starter, the shoes are the source of many conversations with both friends and strangers, who can’t wait to ask where he got them. Handcrafted leather shoes fit perfectly because they are handmade for the wearer, and they don’t need to be broken in. The first shoe design Tochukwu created was a custom design for a client in 2016 made from Blue Stingray leather and blue suede Monkstrap. The original design was made for a customer in Florida and today, it’s still one of the company’s bestsellers. Tochukwu’s own favorite exotic leather material for shoes is Stingray fish leather and his favorite accessories are belts that match his shoes.
Tochukwu launched his newest fashion company, Tucci Di Lusso from Houston, Texas where he moved recently. He already had many customers from Texas before the move, and was attracted to the warm weather and diverse population. He has found Texas a welcome home for his new business. Tucci Di Lusso sets itself apart in a crowded market with excellent customer service, high-quality products that are customizable to meet his client’s needs, and a personal touch – as the company is led by its own designer.
For entrepreneurs looking to break into the hot fashion market, Tochukwu recommends patience above all else. His own success is based on a strong foundation of research – understanding his niche, market, and industry before launch. “Narrow your product to a niche and not try to be jack of all trade. Once you break in with one single product, you can add others later. It’s better to know who your customers, what they like, and how to reach them first,” he says. “Understand who your competitors are and make sure your product or service is unique and solves your customers problem.”
